Escherichia coli DH5α

  • One of the most common laboratory Escherichia coli strains used for molecular cloning
  • Derived from Escherichia coli K-12
  • High transformation efficiency
  • Appropriate host for α-complementation and blue-white selection
  • Mutations in recA1 and endA1 in this strain provide better insert stability during cloning
  • Can also be used for the assembly of DNA fragments (Kostylev, et al., 2015)
  • DH5α is a trademark of Invitrogen Corp. (Sigma-Aldrich)
