- Also known as glial cells or neuroglia
- Non-neuronal cells of nervous system (both central nervous system peripheral nervous system)
- Unlike neuronal cells they can not produce electrical impulses and are devoid of axons and dendrites
Types of glia: Several types of glia are known.
Glia types in central nervous system
- Microglia
- Macroglia
- Astrocytes
- Oligodendrocytes
- Ependymal cells
- Radial glia
Glia types in Peripheral Nervous System
- Schwann cells
- Satellite cells
- Enteric glial cells
