Agarose concentration in a gel is expressed in percentage of agarose to the volume of the buffer (w/v). For example, 1% agarose gel refers to 1 gram agarose per 100 ml final volume of solution in electrophoresis buffer. The most commonly used gel is in the range of 0.5–2%.
