Methanol Metabolism by Methylotrophs

  • The first step of methanol metabolism is the oxidation of methanol which leads to the formation of  formaldehyde
  • Formaldehyde is a central key metabolite in most but not all of the known methylotrophic pathways.
  • At this point, the pathway takes two distinct routes: one leads to the generation of biomass, and the other leads to the generation of energy and carbon dioxide.
