Regulation of Anchorage-Independent Growth by p27

  • p27, a member of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (CKIs), is up-regulated in the suspension culture of most cell lines including cancer cell lines.
  • Upregulated p27 suppresses anchorage independent growth.
  • p27 is expressed at high level upon suspension culture of primary untransformed fibroblast.
  • Reduced level of p27 expression in suspension culture of Ras transformed cells is associated with their ability to promote anchorage independent growth.
