- The term ‘Antephase’ is used to describe the G2/M transition (Pines and Rieder).
- Antephase represents the period of the late-G2 phase, just before the first visible sign of condensed chromosome becomes evident.
- During this period, normal cells become reversibly delayed when subjected to a wide variety of stresses including radiation damage, hypothermia, fluoride treatment, and lack of microtubule function.
- Termination of antephase is marked by the ‘point of no return’. Once the cells pass antephase, entry into mitosis can not be prevented upon treatment.
