Partial digestion of antibodies (immunoglobulins) with the protease papain produces three fragments. Among these, two identical fragments are known as Fragment Antigen Binding (Fab) because they interact with antigens. The third fragment is called Fragment Crystallizable (Fc) due to its tendency to crystallize readily.
